Liberation on the Borders of American Philosophy: Three Radical Turns

View File

This panel shows how liberating ideas have transformed American history, although these ideas have often come from the borders of the academy or have been debated and hatched beyond its walls. We consider the intellectual traditions of transcendentalism, abolitionism, anarchism, pragmatism, personalism, Black nationalism, and radical education to show that creative ideas about freedom and community grow from the edges –the edges of philosophy, the edges of the academy, and the edges of community.
