Esteemed Peirce Colleagues,
The semiotic writings of Charles S. Peirce do not exist in a single, accessible place, nor are they organized in either a systematic way, or even a way that exhibits the chronological development of his thinking on the subject. Yet, he is known to have thought that all of his logic, all of his philosophy, even all of his theology, is nothing but the systematic application of semiotics. The "Symposium on the Semiotic Writings of Charles S. Peirce" addresses all of these problems.
The "Symposium on the Semiotic Writings of Charles S. Peirce" will meet in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy in March of 2005 at the Doubletree Hotel in Bakersfield, California. All details are spelled out in the Announcement, Call for Papers, and Registration forms, which are attached.
We would appreciate the widest possible exposure you could give this announcement and its attached documents. You, your colleagues, and your graduate students are encouraged to submit papers for consideration. BTW, there will be a wealth of dissertation topics opened up by the symposium.
This will also be the second biannual meeting of the International Association of Centers for Peirce Studies, (IACPS). The IACPS is an information service organization that provides a web site listing all of the centers for Peirce studies, their links, their contact information, and their areas of special concentration in Peirce studies. It also publishes a newsletter to all of the centers updating them on the latest activities in the world of Peirce studies. This helps to keep them informed of who's doing what and where. It is also intended to facilitate direct communication between the centers themselves.
There will be a breakout session at the symposium where IACPS business will be discussed and a decision made as to the topic for the 2007 Biannual Meeting that is of most importance to all IACPS members present.
Yours for a better understanding of Peirce,
Charls Pearson, Ph.D.
President, IACPS
